policies. If you need further assistance, our customer service team is
available to assist you.
Is ABA Therapy Available at School?
Yes, ABA therapy can be provided at your child’s school. You will need to manage the necessary permissions from the school to allow the therapist to work on-site, provided there is a medical necessity and no overlapping services from other providers.
Do You Need a Diagnosis Before Receiving ABA Therapy?
Yes and no. If you plan to use insurance to cover the cost of ABA therapy, a formal diagnosis is required. However, if your family opts to self-pay for the therapy, a diagnosis may not be necessary.
How Long Are Services Approved For?
Typically, services are approved for 3 to 6 months, depending on your insurance provider. After the initial approval period, ongoing services are reviewed and extended as needed.
How Many Hours of Service Are Approved Each Week?
Research suggests that children benefit most from receiving between 10 and 40 hours of ABA therapy per week, with hours tailored to the individual needs of each child.
What Are The Requirements For ABA Therapy?
Requirements for ABA therapy vary by state and insurance provider. Commonly requested documents include:
• A referral from a Primary Care Physician that includes the child’s diagnosis code, name, date of birth, and reason for therapy.
• A Diagnostic Report from a licensed professional.
• An evaluation from a Neurologist or Psychologist to confirm the child’s diagnosis using an accepted testing battery.
For detailed requirements, please reach out to us.
What Can ABA Therapy Be Used For?
ABA therapy is effective for treating a broad range of developmental and behavioral disorders. It’s often used to treat autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, intellectual disabilities, global developmental delays, and other learning and behavioral challenges. The principles of ABA can be used to either increase appropriate behaviors or decrease challenging ones, depending on the needs of the individual.
What Is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)?
ABA, or Applied Behavior Analysis, involves the design, implementation, and evaluation of strategies to improve socially significant behaviors. ABA therapy is focused on helping individuals, particularly children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disorders, learn new skills and reinforce positive behaviors. By working one-on-one with a therapist, children develop key life skills and experience behavioral improvements that enhance their overall quality of life. ABA therapy supports individuals aged 18 months to 21 years.
ABA is widely used to treat a variety of developmental and behavioral disorders, such as autism, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, global developmental delays, and more. The therapy aims to enhance important skills like communication, social interaction, and adaptive living skills, including personal self-care and work-related abilities.
What Is the Difference Between a Behavioral Assessment and a Psychological Evaluation?
A Behavioral Assessment is conducted by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), who observes the child in their natural environment and identifies the functions of certain behaviors. Based on this assessment, the BCBA develops a treatment plan with specific interventions and replacement behaviors to address problematic behaviors.
In contrast, a Psychological Evaluation is performed by a licensed psychologist to assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. This evaluation helps to understand the child’s overall strengths and challenges. It is used to diagnose conditions such as ASD, ADHD, or Global Developmental Delay and provide recommendations for further interventions, including ABA therapy.
While both assessments provide valuable insights, ABA therapy focuses on behavior change and skill development, whereas a psychological evaluation provides a comprehensive understanding of a child’s mental and emotional health.
